Swing Out Scotland has classes on the fourth floor (Pravda Room) of The Espionage Club at 4 India Buildings in Victoria Street in Edinburgh. The beginners class is at 7.30pm followed by intermediates at 8.30pm. There's social dancing from 9.30pm to 10.30pm. Classes are £4 and the social dancing is free. There are now Monday Balboa classes in Edinburgh starting on Monday 17 January in the Counting House, 34/35 West Nicholson St, (On the upper floor of the Pear Tree House, Edinburgh They start at 8pm for beginners and from 9pm to 10pm it's free dancing and practice time. Swing Out Scotland has classes at 80 Queen Street in Edinburgh with beginners at 7.30pm and then social dancing from 8.30pm until late. Classes are £4 and the social dancing is free. More details from Paul and Yasmin and at 

Fly Right have classes on a Tuesday night at The Bongo Club, Holyrood Road, with beginners swing dance classes at 7pm and Improvers at 8pm (entry: £4 (£3) per class, or £6 (£5) for two classes - includes entry to social dance). The Edinburgh University Swing Dance Society has classes every Tuesday during term time, 7pm Intermediate, 8pm Beginners', in the main debating hall of the Teviot Union, Bristo Square, Edinburgh, then social dancing at The Bongo Club, Holyrood Roadd, Edinburgh. Admission is free to members, membership is £5 per year.

Fly Right Dance Company offers classes at The Forest, Bristo Place, Edinburgh, on Wednesday evenings. The beginner’s class is a series of 8 weeks beginning 5 May £28 (£21) from 7pm to 8pm. Advanced class - £4 (£3) – 8pm to 9pm. More details on 

On Wednesdays in The Kirk O'Field Hall, 140 The Pleasance, Edinburgh you can learn Boogie Woogie from 8.30pm to 10.30pm. The classes are taught by Brady & Lindsay and cost £5 (conc/students £3). Please bring your own refreshments. See more at

The Edinburgh Swing Dance Society (0131-6616027) from 7.30pm till 8.15 Absolute beginners session giving you the groundwork for all the other classes. 8.30 till 9.15 Beginners/Intermediate - if you've got the basics and want some more challenging moves, more improvisation, and more fun! 9.15 till 10.00 Intermediate Plus : Varied session for more experienced Lindy Hoppers. Sessions are held in The Calton Centre, 121 Montgomery St, just off Easter Road in Edinburgh. Classes end on December 12 2002 and restart on 9 January 2003.

The Fly Right Dance Company at The Ark Semple Street Edinburgh on the first Thursday of each month. One hour swing class at 8pm followed by The Big Bang Big Band. Tickets are £5 or £3 concessions. More information on 0131 665 0458.

Fly Right present weekly social dances at The Ark, Fountainbridge, Edinburgh with free swing dance classes and swing music till late. Come along to practice your moves, whatever your dance style. The evening begins at 8pm with class (cost:£2) - includes free entry to The Ark's Gold Nights (eighties oldies till 3am - lots of drinks promos throughout the evening!). No partner necessary! Swing Dance classes are held on the first and third Sunday of the month in the Tax Centre at East Kilbride (nr Glasgow) from 5pm to 7pm. You can learn Lindy Hop, strolls, and performance routines. Lindsay and Brady teach on the 1st/3rd Sunday of the month, and practice sessions are held on the 2nd/4th Sunday. For details please telephone Helen Tennant on 01355 222949.

The Edinburgh Swing Dance Society holds Lindy workshops at The Calton Centre 121 Montgomery Street off Easter Road in Edinburgh with guest teachers each month. Each one consists of :

* Saturday dance with DJ RhumBoogie. only £5/£3, BYOB. Don't worry if you've not done much Lindy - you can do whatever style you like, or just sit, watch the others, and enjoy the atmosphere!

* Sunday Beginners workshop 11-1.30, £10/£9 (ideal if you're only just starting)

* Sunday Intermediate workshop 2.30-5pm £10/£9 (You should be proficient at all the Lindy basics)
